WELCOME

…to Talking to Trees, where I delve into the depths of storytelling through introspective essays and musings. While my focus primarily centres around the realms of books and movies, I explore storytelling in all its forms.

Storytelling has been the constant companion of the human race, weaving itself into the fabric of our existence. Whether expressed through the enduring narratives of our religions, the rich lore of mythology, or the persuasive allure of advertising, stories illuminate the paths of our individual and collective journeys.

Stories are a cornerstone of our culture and our cognition. Beyond mere entertainment, stories give us an opportunity to reflect upon our world and our place in it, to understand, to ask questions, and to know what we need or want to change. They shape our beliefs, mold our perceptions, and influence the very essence of our being. To passively consume them as if they have little to no value, is to relinquish our agency, thereby allowing culture and society to dictate the course of our lives.

This blog is my endeavour to reclaim autonomy in a journey of self-discovery as I navigate the labyrinth of life, meaning, and culture through the lens of storytelling.

Welcome to this journey, where every tale is a conversation, and every word a stepping stone towards self-understanding.

There have been great societies that did not use the wheel, but there have been no societies that did not tell stories.— Ursula K. Le Guin

We're all made of stories. When they finally put us underground, the stories are what will go on. Not forever, perhaps, but for a time. It's a kind of immortality, I suppose, bounded by limits, it's true, but then so's everything.— Charles de Lindt
